About Agnes Chen
Agnes Chen is a proud first-generation Canadian, a mother of 4, and a registered nurse focused on anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approaches to health and well-being. Using her lived experience and professional understanding of trauma, she founded Starlings Community (now Family Advocacy Support Centre), to address systemic barriers to health equity for systemically vulnerable families. Whether facilitating peer groups, educating frontline staff, or developing innovative resources, her work as a peer and professional is rooted in transformative justice approaches to care, that ensure families can seek out support for their mental health without fear of discrimination, criminalization or family separation. Her commitment to family rights is palpable, and she brings a unique blend of personal insight and professional expertise to her leadership role, ensuring our communities can safeguard the health and healing of multiple generations within families.
